Sprucing up Your Home, One Step at a Time by:Bologna | edited by: Bologna

This week in Sprucing up Your home we move to an "extra" room, the study. Now I say "extra" room because studies are not in all homes. However for those of you who like adding studies to your sim homes, here are some helpful tips.
Now, depending on how you build homes, you may prefer wood floors over carpeted floors or vice versa. Both are fine choices, so you can't go wrong with either. Keep in mind though that you could always place a nice rug on the wood floor to make the room look extra special and nice. Also, studies are, of course, a place to study, so keep the room professional looking. This means that you probably wouldn't put bright purple carpet or some other distracting pattern. Keep it nice, clean, and simple.
As for walls, paint or wallpaper, adding a little bit of design is always nice. Adding color and pattern is always good as long as you don't over do it. Try to stay away from obnoxious patterns and, once again, remember to keep it simple.
What you put in your Sims' study is completely up to you, you put things that you use, like, and need in it. Common objects include a bookshelf, seating, a piano, a chess table, and an easel. However if you feel like putting in a drum kit or a mini fridge, knock yourself out. But a lot of people don't think to put in decorations, paintings, plants, lights, or even curtains. Don't be one of those people. If you are putting in a book shelf, be sure to have a nice, cozy area to sit down at. A couch or a couple of chairs will do the trick. Now, in this same area, if you are placing a chess table in the room, place it nearby. Then, put a source of light. This will keep your Sims' environment score high as no Sim likes to read or play chess in the dark. But you can't use lights all the time...unless your Sims a rich, so also be sure to place some windows in the room. And when there's windows, there should be curtains! Add some nice curtains that go with the room.
Plants will give the room some color, so add some standing plants in the corners of the room, have some plants hanging from the ceiling, and maybe one or two on an end table as well. And of course, the walls are still bare! So add some nice paintings, or for a more personal touch, keep the walls blank for now and have your Sims fill them up by painting their own masterpieces. Either way, art will improve the room's look.
And wala, your study is complete! Your Knowledge Sims couldn't be more happy! So that's what we have for this week in Sprucing up Your Home. Join us next week as we move onto the long awaited Kitchen! Just in time for Kitchen & Bath Stuff, coming to a store near you April 8th.
